Geocache Description:

This geocache is part of the Lake Metigoshe State Park geocache system. Daily entry fee of $5.00 per vehicle or ND State Park Annual Pass which is $25 and can be purchased at the entrance station or office. Parking for this cache can be found in the parking lot just before the entrance station, near the dorms and kitchen/dining hall.

In this area, you'll see a lot of evidence of the park's history. In the 1930's, Franklin D. Roosevelt started his New Deal programs. Programs, such as the Works Progress Administration (WPA), put many to work during the Great Depression and post war times. During this time, many hiking trails, roads, picnic areas, buildings, campgrounds, etc. were built and established in many state and national parks. Nearby, you can see a tribute to the WPA program and the kitchen/dining hall that was a result of the program. The dorms and comfort station in this area have since been rebuilt. Walk over and check out the construction of the kitchen/dining hall, a building that is still in use today at the park as it is used for family reunions, weddings, workshops, etc.
