Geocache Description:

Sevier Cabin

Pioneer, soldier, statesman, and one of the founders of the Republic, "Nolichucky Jack" John Sevier was one of the most important figures in the history of the Great State of Tennessee.
During the American Revolution, John Sevier led a rag tag militia of "Overmountain Men" from what is now Washington County Tennessee, against the superior forces of British Colonel Patrick Ferguson's regulars at the Battle of Kings Mountain. Although outnumbered and poorly equipped, the Patriots routed the British forces that day in a battle that lasted only a little more than an hour. All of the British soldiers were either killed or captured.
Kings Mountain is considered to be the turning point of the American Revolution, and without this victory, the outcome of the war could have been very different.
After the War for Independence, Sevier was elected as Governor of the newly established State of Franklin, which only existed for four years, and eventually became the eastern part of what is now the state of Tennessee.. After its conception, Sevier was elected as the first Governor of Tennessee.
Marble Springs Farmstead is a great example of life in the 18th. Century. It consists of Sevier's original log home, as well as other buildings with their own historical significance, that have been reconstructed on this site.
