A gentle uphill hike to the cache well less than one mile from the parking area.
We were out seeking the first four caches placed in the Fernandez Ranch Open Space and we decided to drop one of our own. The hike from the parking area is not too long nor too uphill. The cache is located between two that were placed earlier. It is a very small container, but should not be too difficult to find. Some foreign coinage is the initial prize. Bring your own writing implement.
This open space is lovely and you will enjoy hiking all the trails. Be careful of poison oak in several places not far off the trail (but not near the cache area). We also found a higher than usual number of ticks in the heavily treed areas.
The Fernandez Ranch Open Space is accessed by taking Christie Road from Highway 4 east bound only just a few miles east of Hercules. Take a hard right just before the railroad undercrossing. Use extra caution when entering and existing Highway 4, this is a obviously very dangerous intersection.
Although, an underground petroleum pipeline passes through this open space, there are several examples of renewable energy seen in the cache area.
