Cache on Penobscot Knob
This cache is located on one of the highest points in the northeast part of Pennsylvania. It's an area formerly used by the Forestry Department to watch for and assist in locating brush fires for a large part of the Wyoming Valley. Currently there are several broadcast towers for everything from amateur radio to cellular providers and all of the local TV stations.
There are no "NO TRESPASSING" or "PRIVATE PROPERTY" signs along the way, and the gate is never locked. Most of the time the people who live at the base of the road wave to you as you start the climb, and there are always people hiking and or walking dogs at the top. As common sense would dictate, do not go near any of the towers or buildings.
You can drive to the top of the mountain in a truck or SUV, as the road is hard packed gravel, but operating a car is not suggested as it is very steep.
When you reach the top, very little bushwacking is required. You can also park at the bottom near the fire house and follow the dirt road until you see the road leaking up the mountain.
Have fun and BE SURE TO BRING A CAMERA!!! The views on a clear day are astounding. You can see from Carbondale to Berwick.
