CASTELNAU DE GUERS - Le Beffroi

Les deux entrées de la ville
L'enceinte médiévale était dotée de 2 portes: la porte Sainte-Anne au nord et la porte Minerve au sud. A gauche de celle-ci, des corbeaux supportaient une galerie encore visible au XIXe siècle. A partir du XVIIe siècle, de nombreuses fenêtres seront ouvertes dans les remparts, comme la fenêtre d'angle que l'on peut voir sous les anciennes galeries. La porte a été agrandie en 1791 pour laisser passer les charrettes.

Le beffroi
Implanté à côté de la maison commune et de l'ancien hôpital, le beffroi abritait une cloche (fondue en 1609) ainsi qu'une horloge publique. Le four de la communauté était situé à proximité.

Minerve Gate
The medieval enclosure was accessed via two gates: the Sainte-Anne gate to the north and the Minerve gate to the south. To the left of this Minerve gate, crows served as supports to a balcoy which was still intact in the 19th cen. From the 17th cen onwards, numerous windows were opened in the ramparts, similar to the angle window that can be seen below the ancient balconies. In 1791 the Gate was enlarged to allow carts to pass through.

The belfry
The belfry set next to the communal building and the old hospital, harboured a bell (founded in 1609) and a public clock. The community oven was located nearby.
