Aborigines have lived in the Lake Bolac district since “time immemorial”. The local tribe was known as the Bulugbara [pronounced Boolucburrer] and they called the freshwater lake, “Boloke”.
Lake Boloke was a magnificent meeting place during the eeling season, when upwards of one thousand aborigines would gather to feast on the eels.A significant stone formation in the shape of an eel, east of the township, bears testament to the importance eels played in the
life of the local aboriginal tribe.
When we placed the cache there was no water at all in the lake, and hope one day it will return to it's former glory. I can remember catching Eels and Redfin when the lake was full.
The Lake Bolac Eel Festival is a community Art and Music Festival held each autumn on the banks of Lake Bolac
Here you will find an easy cache and a scratchie for the first to find
