HISTORY OF BOGGLE
Boggle is a game played using a plastic grid of lettered dice. The game begins by shaking a covered tray of sixteen cubic dice, each with a different letter printed on each of its sides. The dice settle into a 4x4 tray so that only the top letter of each cube is visible. Each player searches for words that can be constructed from the letters of sequentially adjacent cubes.
It was designed by Allan Turoff and trademarked by Parker Brothers. Parker's internal designers gave it uniqueness via the cute, effective shaker and named it "Boggle" to compete with double letters in the name of "Scrabble".
It failed when it was first introduced in 1972 because it was blandly merchandised as part of a series of three small word games. It was relaunched in 1976, after an expensive print campaign in New York City, featuring mock covers of Cosmopolitan Magazine that were BOGGLE-related
