This cache has been archived.

n0tley: [:D][:D][:D] [green]Thank you for all your lovely comments and favourite points over the last couple of years, but I think it's time to archive this route. I'm sure we can recycle some of the more unusual containers by using them elsewhere.[/green][:D][:D][:D]

Geocache Description:

Introduction:
We chose this circular walk of about 5 miles for our first set of caches because it passes through two of our favourite Essex villages. The route has received some great feedback, but we have thought for a while that it needed a few more caches. The original trail of 7 caches has now become a trail of 15 caches, some of which are a little different.

The walk is generally along clearly marked and well maintained footpaths. The main walk can be completed in about two hours, or if you're like us and have small children, then maybe four!

Great Bardfield and Finchingfield are peaceful North Essex country villages, both with Windmills. This series of caches will take you from Great Bardfield, which was mentioned in The Domesday Book of 1086, marking the beginning of the village's recorded history. It was well established in the time of the Anglo-Saxons, who gave it the name Bardefelda, which is thought to mean 'open land colonised by dependent peasants'.

About half way around this short walk you will discover the picturesque village of Finchingfield, where you can rest a while and enjoy the view.

Some of the caches contain part of the coordinates for the Trail of Two Mills Bonus Cache. The codes you need are written on the back of the logbooks.

The Series:

The coordinates for the Trail of Two Mills: Bonus Cache are as follows:

N 051 56.AB(C-2)
E 000 26.D(B-E)(F-C)

You're looking for a micro container that contains a pencil and log book.

Please replace the Cache exactly as found, so not to spoil the fun for the next Geocachers. Thank You.

When you are ready to move on, make your way back to the village.

If you walk back to the village via the waypoint you will pass the 19th century Great Bardfield cage, a village lock up, which was used for the punishment of unsavoury characters.
