Geocache Description:

This cache is at the top of Corse Hill which is the highest point in East Renfrewshire at 376m (1233 feet). Noticed that there wasn't a cache there and decided that there should be!

Corse Hill, the highest point in East Renfrewshire, is now within the Whitelee Windfarm Development that was completed in 2009.

A few facts and figures (updated Jan 2014) :

  • 215 wind turbines rated at 539MW Total Output
  • This can power approx 300,000 homes
  • Total length of trails to explore is 130km including a 17km spine road
  • Turbine heights vary from 110m to 140m
  • Each turbine blade weighs 12 tonnes!
  • Corse Hill Met Office Weather Station which used to stand at the cache site was transferred to Holehead to the North of Glasgow as part of the development
The views on the day we placed the cache were absolutely amazing. You can see for miles in every direction. Good to combine this with Pooter's Carrot Top (GCKJXX). Access is straightforward as the cache is not too far from the 10 mile spine road which goes through the windfarm. Good one for a ride on the bikes.

Thanks to the Forestry Commission Scotland for their permission to place caches in their Lowland Scotland forests.
