The lucky pebbles cache. Situated on the Gorge route in the RNNP
Pick up a pebble in the lower reaches of the Tugela and give it another chance to make a journey maybe where it once went through many years ago.
The cache container contains a few pebbles I picked up at the start of the hike near the Tendele parking.
The cache is placed at the top of the Tugela Gorge and you will need to climb the chain ladder to get to the cache or if the water level is not too high go through the gorge itself and take the easy foot path up the other side. The cache is situated at a view point on top of the gorge and is in a dangerous area with no barriers. Caution must be taken here. The cache is in a rock to your right and is covered by a small rock.
Remove a pebble from the cache and make sure that no-one is in the gorge and drop it into the water below. Please do not throw it against the sides of the gorge.... The pebbles you brought with can then be placed into the cache so another cacher can do the same. Please limit the size of the pebble to small ones that will easily be washed out the gorge when the summer rains come down.
Take note that during summer months this cache may not be accessible due to flooding. Flash floods in the berg are common and very dangerous. Never go on the river beds if there is a possibility of this happening.
