ENG: The first Virtsu lighthouse was built in 1866. The cast iron parts were purchased from France, Hight of the light house was 28.5m and the diameter at the bottom 5,8m. Vitsu lighthouse was the only cast iron tower in Estonia, and it was destroyed in the WW I. (Russian forces blow it up on the autumn of 1917) The only building that has preserved is the iron stone barn.
After the WW I the destroyed lighthouse was replaced with a temporary wooden tower.
The Estonias first reinforced concrete lighthouse was built there on 1924 and it stood there for 20 years, til 1944 it was destroyed by the retreating German army.
The last, still standing lighthouse was built by the Russian work battalion 1951.It is 18m high and 2,5m in diameter.
EST: Virtsu I tuletorn püstitati 1866. a. Prantsusmaalt ostetud malmosadest torni kõrgus oli 28,5 m, läbimõõt all 5,8 m, laternaruumis 2,75 m. Virtsu oli ainus Eesti malmtuletorn, mis hävis Esimeses maailmasõjas (tsaariarmeelased õhkisid selle 1917. aasta sügisel). Vanadest hoonetest säilis vaid 1882. a. ehitatud raudkivist õliait.
Pärast Esimest maailmasõda püstitati 1917. aastal hävinud tuletorni asemele ajutine puitsõrestiktorn. 1924. aastal ehitati Eesti esimene raudbetoontuletorn, kõrgus koos rauast laternaosaga 20 m, läbimõõt 2,5 m. Virtsu teine tuletorn püsis 20 aastat - 1944. aasta sügisel õhkisid selle Saaremaale taganevad saksa sõjaväelased.
Seejärel ehitasid venelased ajutise palkmajaka. Praeguse ehk III tuletorni ehitas vene tööpataljon 1951. aastal. Praegune neljatahuline kivibetoontorn on 18 m kõrge läbimõõduga 2,5 m.
