The Cateran Trail is a 64mile/103km circular route. It follows paths that Caterans used along drove roads and tracks through the stunning glens of Strathardle, Glenshee and Glen Isla. The trail can be walked in 4 or 5 days with accommodation.
This section of the track goes from Cally to Kirkmichael. A variety of scenery and terrain to include good forest and drover roads, rugged forest tracks, wee paths and grass with no obvious track. A gentle incline but there are deer stiles to cross, not all of them have a dog flap. There are areas where you walk through sheep grazing.

During the 18th century, Chalmers lived at Morganstoune, not far from this cache. At that time the area was frequently raided by Caterans. The Caterans were terrified of him and they took the decision to murder him in his bed. However their plan back-fired and as they entered Chalmers house he was ready for them and murdered two Caterans.
