The Trail is named after the Caterans – marauding cattle thieves who flourished in the more lawless regions of the Highlands from the Middle Ages until the 17th century. More feared than wolves, cateran raiding parties numbered anything from 50 to 500 fierce warriors.


The trail is marked with wooden posts along the way, some beautifully carved.
