Flatlander Revenge Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Moun10Bike: After much debate, I am electing to archive this cache permanently. Sorry for taking to long to reach this decision, but it was a difficult one for me. A revisit of the site reinforced in my mind that the area is now no longer a good one in which to hide a cache, and I'm afraid that given the current state of the area a simple marker would not fare much better.

Geocache Description:

We thought that FLATLAND would be the last cache of a 2 cache series. Little did we know that there would be a third!

Something terrible has occurred.

When I visited the intersection of the two lines described in the Flatland cache, I opened a dimensional door between Flatland and our world. This allowed EraSeek to escape his entrapment in that dimension.

What I didn’t understand at that time were the horrible consequences of that event.

Opening that rift created a dimensional warp in the area. In addition to opening the door through which EraSeek escaped, it also opened two additional rifts. The first was unstable and quickly closed. The second appears to be stable, and very dangerous.

These additional doors are linked to that used for EraSeek’s escape in that they are located using the same points used to find the Flatland cache:

N 47° 42.135', W 122° 08.543'
N 47° 42.139', W 122° 08.210'
N 47° 42.235', W 122° 08.383'
N 47° 42.100', W 122° 08.214'

You will note that if you plot these four points on a map you can draw three pairs of intersecting lines with them, creating three separate intersections in the immediate vicinity (intersections made by these lines on the opposite side of the globe are safe, for now). The first intersection was that used to locate the Flatland cache and free EraSeek. The second is located to the east of the points and is on private land. This is the location of the unstable door that closed immediately after opening. It is the third intersection to the north that poses the horrifying problem.

You see, it turns out that EraSeek’s imprisonment in Flatland was not an accident, and there are some Flatlanders who are extremely upset with his release. They are now in the process of using the stable dimensional door to the north to recapture him. They have unleashed the Enforcer of Flatland through this rift with the goal of snaring EraSeek and returning him to their dimension. Already, the Enforcer has succeeded in working his claw into our world, and if not stopped he will soon fully enter our world and wreak a path of destruction in his effort to locate and recapture EraSeek.

Your mission is to locate this northern rift and retrieve the Claw of the Enforcer, then move it as far away from the dimensional rift as possible, as quickly as possible. It is best to keep the Claw moving so as to keep the Enforcer off balance and prevent him from ever fully entering our world. Once the Claw has been moved from the dimensional door, the mission of later finders is to check on the status of the door and confirm that the Flatlanders are not hatching a new plan via that rift. EraSeek’s very life may be at stake!

A final word of caution: The northern rift is close to an area frequented by innocents, so discretion during your search could be necessary to avoid panic. Also, the door is well hidden under a thin covering of debris and dead grass; it is a necessity that it be rehidden in a similar manner so as to avoid accidental discovery by those innocents.
