Sandy “The Gateway to Mt. Hood” – North Clackamas Coin Challenge
The City of Sandy is the gateway to Mt. Hood and the northeast part of Clackamas County.
Sandy has a population of around 8,000, and is the commercial center of a rural area with a population of approximately 20,000. It is west of Mount Hood on the Barlow Road segment of the Oregon Trail. Sandy has a thriving business base, including many stores and services for visitors to the Mt. Hood Recreation Area. On the foothills of the Cascade Range, Sandy's elevation varies from 750 to over 1,000 feet. Thousands of people travel thru Sandy to enjoy the nearby opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, hiking, boating, camping, fishing, Mt. Biking and of course Geocaching on Mt. Hood and Eastern Oregon.
The cache is located a thousand feet to the west of the Mt. Hood National Forest Headquarters. You can park there and walk down the sidewalk or ride SAM the Sandy Area Metro (Bus) for free. The Bus stop is 1200ft from the cache.
If you are enjoying Caching in the North Clackamas County area, why not consider doing the 2010 North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce Geocoin Challenge. Go to GC2A4CP and read all about it!!
