Cypripedium reginae Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

guardian14: geocaching gives you 'highs' but it also gives you 'lows'.
today is one of those days.
it saddens me to have to archive this (almost) 12 year old cache.
my dad, my wife, and I placed this cache to bring people to this amazing area.

12 years, 94 finds, no 'DNF' except for the last one. sorry. and 9 favorite points.

I am also terribly sorry for the TB that was logged as being in the cache. sorry, it's gone, unless whoever took the cache drops it back into a different cache.

classic place for a geocache... one of Lanark county's seven wonders.

hopefully someone can place another cache here to continue the tradition.
our cache, was a 'replacement' for one that existed previously (how do you think we found this spot? lol), but was archived.

as a reminder, 3rd week of June seems to be the goldilocks time to see the orchids.

happy caching
see you on the trails

Geocache Description:

Welcome to Purdon conservation area.

This conservation area once belonged to a Mr. Joe Purdon. Back in the 1930's he found a very rare flower on his property and by carefull management created a colony of 16,000.

PEAK BLOOMING SEASON IS NOW ....June 19, 2010

Each year the actual dates will vary a little but mid to late june seems best.

Cypripedium reginae...Showy Lady's Silpper, is rare in ontario but is the state flower of Minnesota.

Park has 2 Trails...1. a boardwalk trail that has interpretive posts along the way..and about a Gazillion flowers !!
THIS trail IS WHEELCHAIR accessable,
The cache itself is not.

Park at "Lower" parking coordinates for wheelchair access. and start of boardwalk loop.

2. A lookout trail, which leads to the cache.
Park at "upper" parking coordinates for Lookout trail.

Please, there is no bushwacking required to get to the cache, a light trail runs almost staight to the cache from the lookout platform, and there is a picnic table and outhouse right there as well.

The 2 trails connect by way of stairs near the mid-point of the boardwalk trail.

There may be muggles at times so please be stealthy as required.

cache is a black painted ammo can.

lots of loot for trading and a special surprise for the ftf
There is a dollar store first-aid kit in the cache. This is not a trade item. Please feel free to use it for anyone that has a boo-boo.

There is tree cover at GZ and it was raining off and on today but the coordinates averaged out to +/- 2m..

congratulations to alseaman and GrammieS and Jasper for the FTF
