CBD = Central Business District

CBD on yleisesti aluetieteessä käytetty keino tutkittaessa kaupunkien keskustoja. CBD voidaan määrittää monella eri tavalla, joita jokaista voidaan vielä hioa eri laskentatavoilla. Itse käytin Salon CBD alueen määrittelyssä näyteikkunoita. Suhteutin silmämääräisellä arviolla näyteikkunoiden osuuden kadusta. Vapaalla kädellä suoritin piirroksen lopulta karttaan. Tämän jälkeen laskin saamani alueen pinta-alan. Kyseisen pinta-alan perusteella puolestaan määritin ympyrän strategiset mitat ja sijoitin sen kartalle. Ympyrän tarkoitus on osua kohtaan, jossa sen pinta-ala peittää eniten CBD -alueesta. Ympyrän keskipiste puolestaan osoittaa CBD –alueen näennäisen keskikohdan.

No eihän se tulos välttämättä ollut kovin realistinen ja täysin tieteellisten tutkimusmetodien mukainen mutta hyvä peruste piilottaa purkki keskustaan. Lähemmäs totuutta varmasti päästäisiin määrittämällä CBD alue esimerkiksi jalankulkijoiden liikesuuntien perusteella.

CBD is known as a method studing the heart of a city. There is many ways to define CBD but I used display windows. My quick study of Salo’s CBD was inexact but works as a guideline for better CBDs. First I investigated the amount of the display windows in a block and block by block I defined the CBD on a map. Then I calculated CBD’s surface area on the map. With these calculations I defined a circle. And then I put the circle on the CBD so it would cover as much as possible from the CBD. The whole point of this circle is that the center of the circle would tell us the center of Salo’s CBD.

Although my studies weren’t very exact defining the CBD gave me a good reason to hide a cache :D
