Geocache Description:

The White Lady or Cloghastucan overlooking the Antrim Coast Road (A2) is in the Cloghastucan ASSI.

Cloghastucan is a special place because of its earth science interest. The area provides excellent access to important exposures of limestone.

The rocks here date from the middle Cretaceous period of Earth history. The limestone formed in a warm, shallow sea and is made up of millions of shells from microscopic animals.

The rocks are around 85 million years old and are part of the Ulster White Limestone that is exposed along much of the Antrim coast.

It is an important site as it is a type locality for one of the many beds that comprise the Ulster White Limestone.

Cache container is a 0.5litre round tab lock box containing a log book only. It will take a few small swaps and Geocoins.

Pay particular attention to the White Lady's neck. Below the neck is limestone, which of course is the bodies of millions of dead sea creatures indicating that it was once at the bottom of the sea. Then note the neck, which is limestone pebbles in a sedimentary surround. This indicates that that was a beach at one time and then later near the mouth of a river. Later still is new limestone formation that makes the head. The difference in age between the body and the head must be millions or tens of millions of years.
