Kort, men litt ulendt cachetur fra flott utsiktpunkt over fjorden ved Dirdalstunnelen. Godt fottøy anbefales.

Denne cachen ligger i nærheten av et flott utsiktspunkt over fjorden like ved vestre (øvre) tunellåpning på Dirdalstunnelen. Vær oppmerksom ved av og påkjøring til RV45 nær tunnelåpningen!
God parkering ved et lite rasteplassbord i stein. Turen til cachen starter opp en kort, gammel betongtrapp i lia.
Den gamle veien på utsiden her er fullt kjørbar fra begge sider og kjøreturen langs den bratte fjordsida anbefales enten du kommer nedenfra eller ovenfra. Fram til Dirdalstunnellen ble bygget (ca 1980) var dette hovedveien til Dirdal. Like nedenfor dagens tunnel klarte norske styrker (den 23.april 1940) å holde tilbake tyske tropper i over et døgn. Det var først da noen tyske soldater gikk over fjellet og falt nordmennene i ryggen at de tyske troppene kunne rykke ned til Dirdal på den trange veien uten å bli beskutt. En minnestøtte over 2 norske offiserer drept i bakholdsangrepet står på høyre side av riksveien ca 1 km fra sjøen i Dirdal.
>>This cache is placed near a beautiful viewpoint over the fjord close to the western (upper) opening of the Dirdal tunnel. Be careful driving off and on to the main road (RV45) close to the tunnel opening! Park besides the picnic stone table at the viewpoint. The trip to the cache starts up the short concrete step in the hillside.
The old road at the outside of the tunnel is useable from both directions, and gives a great view of the fjord. This road was the main road to Dirdal before the tunnel was excavated around 1980. A few meters from the lower tunnel opening, german troops were held back for more than a day during the 2. world war invasion (23. april 1940). A few german soldiers went over the mountain and attacked the norwegians from behind to free the narrow road passage. A memorial of two norwegain officers killed in this attack is placed in Dirdal at the right hand of the main road, around 1 km from the fjord.
