Have you ever wondered why summer days are so long... and winter days are so short? The answer is all in the Earth's tilt. The Earth revolves around the sun on a 23.5 degree tilt. This tilt causes the change in the length of day and the seasons of the year!
The Summer Solstice occurs once every year on June 20th or June 21st (in the northern hemisphere) and is considered the first day of summer. This is always the longest day of the year because it is when the northern hemispher is tilted the closest to the sun. Although the days become shorter after the summer solstice, the weather continues to grow warmer. This is because it takes several months for our oceans to gain heat. As the oceans continue to grow warmer, so does our weather. The days will continue to become shorter again until the winter solstice (which is when the northern hemispher is tilted the farthest away from the sun.
This park is a great place to celebrate the longest day of summer and the warm days that follow. It boasts one of the areas few skate parks, a baseball field, softball field, soccer field, and a half mile walking path. The deer know the way down the hill. The path can get muddy. So, get out there and enjoy the outdoors!
