Geocache Description:

You must find the location where WV and Maryland meet, with the corners of Garrett County, Preston County, and Tucker County. This location can be found by traveling Rt. 219 into West Virginia. If you look on a map it is quite easy to find. As you get closer to the park you will see state park road signs that show you the way to the park.

Situated near Blackwater Falls State Park, the Fairfax Stone originally marked the western boundary of land granted Lord Fairfax by the King of England. Its position in Lord Fairfax's estate and importance in determining the final boundary of West Virginia has given the Fairfax Stone a significant role in both regional and state history. It also is the starting point for the Upper Branch of the Potmac River. The monument is maintained as part of a small historic area.

The cache is located behind the stone in the woods. You must wade across the river, but then again you may not have to, and travel into the woods. When you get to the worm fence follow it down the hill towards a clearing. The cache is located close to the worm fence under the roots of a fallen tree. The cache is a 12 inch pipe painted in camo. Open the end which is painted in black. The other end will not open because it is sealed shut. The cache consist of a bear key chain, Easter Angel and some incense sticks.
Enjoy one of America's historic momuments. It is believed (rumored) that a young George Washington placed the stone which is located there.
