Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden on the newly opened Atlanta BeltLine. The BeltLine has the extraordinary potential to positively transform the City of Atlanta.

One of the most comprehensive economic development efforts ever undertaken in the City of Atlanta and the largest, most wide-ranging urban redevelopment currently underway in the U.S., the BeltLine will combine greenspace, trails, transit, and new development along 22 miles of historic rail segments that encircle the urban core. This is the Northeast part of the BeltLine, which goes from Dekalb Avenue to Monroe drive. All along the BeltLine you will enjoy scenic views and various styles of art.

If you face west you will see what use to be City Hall East. This 2 million square foot building is the largest building in Georgia and in 1926, Sears opened a multi-purpose facility here. With a large part of their success due to catalogue sales, the building acted as a regional distribution center for their mail order products, in addition to housing a retail store accessed off Ponce de Leon Avenue. A direct spur to the BeltLine provided convenient access for shipping and receiving their products, which is one of the reasons why Sears chose this location.

During the 1920’s, there was a baseball stadium here, which was home to the Atlanta Black Crackers. Also, in the 1930's, the New York Yankees and Babe Ruth played an exhibition game at this stadium. If you look to the right down the hill, you will see a tree with a plaque under it. This plaque is dedicated to this team.

Cache contains a log only, so bring your own pen.
