Geocache Description:

This is a small cache located very near to one of Vancouver's coolest, and least well known attractions. Cache is a micro, so bring your own pen.

Want to have a whale of a time? Feeling like you've got the "blues"? Make no bones about it, this cache will lift your spirits.

In 1987, after being killed at sea, the body of a blue whal washed ashore in PEI. The islanders buried the whale shortly after they discovered it. Some 20 years later researchers dug up the whale and it had barely decomposed! It took 8 days to dig up the entire whale body. The whale was then loaded into a special refrigerated CN Railcar and made the trek to Vancouver. Researchers began the difficult (and likely rather aromatic) job of removing the skin and blubber to get the skeleton. And now...? Well - you can see what a mammal large as the blue whale looks like when fully stripped down.

Cache itself is about a one-inch square plastic container, containing only a log. It isn't right at the whale - its maybe 20m away (that's an estimate - don't rely on it). Please be careful to return the cache to the same location.

Enjoy the UBC Campus, and don't 'flipper' out.

A Note Regarding Logging of my Caches

Geocache hiders often go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Blank, single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. If a cache is not part of a series, endeavour to make the log relate to the cache. Resist the urge to copy and paste no matter how many caches you may do in a day. Please keep this in mind when entering your log. Thank you!
