Geocache Description:

The container at this location is a Bison Tube. After signing the log sheet please roll it up and place it in the cap. Then screw on the bottom piece. This prevents the log sheet from being crushed and difficult to sign. Thank You!

These caches are on some of the rural roads of Macoupin County. Enjoy the less traveled roads and see some unusual, interesting and historic places. The Honey Creek Bridge on Historic Old Route 66 was constructed by the State of Illinois in 1920. This bridge was actually built before the designation of Route 66, which occurred in November of 1926. The bridge is presently closed to motor vehicle traffic except for a few special events such as the Route 66 Association of Illinois Motor Tour. In 2005 the bridge was being considered for demolition by the Illinois Department of Transportation. At that time the Macoupin County Board of Directors came to agreement with IDOT to assume jurisdiction of bridge with the State retaining jurisdiction of the road and being responsible for its maintenance and upkeep. A short time after the agreement the Macoupin County Board voted to allow stenciling of the Route 66 Shield on the bridge deck to increase awareness of the bridge and Historic Old Route 66. The stencils, although a bit faded, are still visible on the bridge deck. An identification plaque is on the South end of the bridge. Presently this section of Historic Old Route 66 is named Deerfield Drive. The bridge is visible and accessible from Route 4 via either a North approach a South approach. There is a parking area with turn around room on South end access. Do not drive across the bridge! The container is a Magnetic Bison Tube with only a log sheet. You do not have to go under the bridge to find the cache! Bring a writing instrument to sign the log – this is a small log sheet so sign with date and name only. Bugs, Insects, Critters, Snakes or Poisonous Plants could be present. Search appropriately! Parking on the old paved roadway and in an area on the South approach is available at this cache. Use some discretion if you choose to leave the roadway if the ground is wet. Congratulations To Vinpride On Being First To Find!
