Geocache Description:

This cache was originally hidden as part of the One Degree of Separation Geocaching Project. It was a seed cache that came from: GCWMAY. Unfortunately, the original container had to be replaced and so it can no longer be a part of the series, but it can continue as a stand alone cache.

Locating this cache will bring you to a portion of the old "feeder canal" which was constructed in 1829 to bring water from above the dam on the Grand River at Dunnville and supply it to the original Welland Canal. The original feeder canal was a ditch 2 feet deep and 4 feet wide and was dug in 214 days by 1,000 men using horse drawn scrapers. The feeder canal was later widened and by 1842 it functioned as a regular branch of the Welland Canal allowing ships entering from Lake Erie at Port Maitland to travel the canal to Lake Ontario and vice versa.

Congratulations to Kreamer&BearsKrew for their FTF!
