Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden near a large puddle or small pond depending on your point of view. Due to marks on some trees there was probably a beaver here at one time, but I do not believe he is still in residence. This is state wild forest land. There is an abundance of wildlife and it is a very pretty area.

This is not easy terrain. Older children may be all right, but small children are out. There are 3 ways to arrive at the cache.

Your first option to the park on the Roscoe side of Russel Brook road. This trail is in better condition and there is less chance for falling or twisting an ankle, however it is longer and much steeper. Follow to trail towards mud pond and then continue to follow down to the other side of Russel Brook.

The second way is to park on the Roscoe side of Russel Brook Rd and hike down Russel Brook to the waypoint where the trail splits off. You will have to do some climbing this way and need to cross a stream.

The third way is to park at the Cook's Falls side of Russel Brook Road. This road was heavily damaged during a flood a few years ago and the two ends do not connect. The road exists more as a boulder field now. The brook crosses over the road in several places. This is the most direct route to the cache and the most level, only becoming steep for the last 1/4-1/2 mile. There is a waypoint listed on this route where the trail splits off of the road. Follow the trail to the left up. Approx 50 yards up the mountain the trail splits again. Follow to the right up the trail and away from the power lines. GZ is a sort distance away after the trail levels out.

If hiking Russel Brook road instead to taking the Mud Point Trail I recommend packing a set of water shoes. When you have to cross streams, remove your hiking boot and use the water shoes. Once you are acrossed dry off your feet and replace your socks and boots.
