Geocache Description:

The Cairo Tower is a free-standing concrete tower in Cairo, Egypt. It stands in the Zamalek district on Gezira Island in the River Nile, close to the city center. At 187 m (614 ft), it is 43 meters (141 ft) higher than the Great Pyramid of Giza, which stands some 15 km (9.3 mi) to the southwest. It is one of Cairo's most famous and well-known landmarks.

The Cairo Tower was built from 1956 to 1961, it was designed by the Egyptian architect Naoum Chebib, the tower's partially open lattice-work design is intended to evoke a lotus plant. The tower is crowned by a circular observation deck and a rotating restaurant with a view over Cairo. One rotation takes approximately 70 minutes. (luxurious, a bit expensive, 100 LE minimum cgarge)

The Cairo Tower opens every day from 9:00 in the morning until 1:00 the next morning. The whole of Cairo awaits you at the top of the tower. This is not a sight one should miss
Tickets are 20 L.E for Egyptians, 70 L.E for foreigners
" as advised by the cache reviewer, this entrance fee is a bit expensive for geocachers in general, (and somehow over-rated, it used to be much cheaper a year ago) but if you are going ANYWAYS to the Cairo tower as a tourist, now you have another cache there to add to your found list :) "

you can check out the website of the Cairo tower for more information about restaurants and amenities.

about this NANO cache, it was REALLY hard to find a hiding place that is not easily muggled, safe to find, not blown away by wind up there, and somehow hidden from guards. i had the help of 3 friends: gaurav from india, stephanie and chris from USA. credit goes to Gaurav for spotting the hide-out.

after the SLOW elevator ride to the top, you have to take the stairs till you reach the open air panorama view area. once you are outside, you go left for a quarter turn around the wall and you will reach the first telescope-viewer in sight. the cache is hidden around 2-3 meters away from the telescope.

here comes the tricky part: the cache is hidden IN the iron fence, facing south. you will have a great view of the Nile, the Cairo opera house, Kasr El Nile bridge with its 4 guardian Lions, Al Ahly sporting Club and some luxurious 5 stars hotels. you practically will have to slide you hands from the upper horizontal open space then downwards towards the cache. elevation at this point will be 168 Meters approx.
check the Hint and spoiler pictures for more details

PLEASE be EXTRA careful not to be seen by guardians specially muggles, it took us a while to be able to plant the cache there, and an EXTRA care not to drop the cache after retrieving it. and PLEASE make sure the cache goes EXACTLY in its original hiding place, this is really critical for its survival up there :)

this is a nano-cache so you HAVE to bring YOU OWN PEN to log it, you will only find a small log paper and a matchstick to help you push the log outside, you can use your pen or a key to get the matchstick out, then use the matchstick to push the log OUT of the cache and back INTO it.

Wishing you the best of luck and a Great Bird's View of Cairo
