Money for Nothing, Chicks for Free Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

SeaGirtLight: It's with some sadness, mixed with some joy, that I'm archiving this cache. It was my first-ever cache, placed the first summer I was caching. The name comes from the famous Dire Straits song I listened to that summer on a loop as I wound across New Jersey racking up finds with new friends. Brothers in Arms can still send me back to 2010.

But after years of languishing, the Egg-O-Mat no longer resides in the back corner of the Warren DPW lot. It's moved to a new, indoor, location, with plans to be restored and on display soon. It needs a lot of work, so we'll see how long it takes, but I'm excited to be part of the project.

With the Egg-O-Mat gone from here, so is the information needed to find this cache. Thus, it's time to archive it. Thank you all for visiting, and seeing this little bit of Warren history. This is still an area worth visiting, with several other caches and several historic sites related to the Hofheimer family, who owned this land for the first part of the 20th century.

Once the Egg-O-Mat finds its new home, I intend to revive this cache, and bring you all to see it again all spiffy and restored!

Dropping my "Cache Rover" TB in here for eternity, which was stuck to my now-retired 1993 Range Rover that took me through many of those journeys.

Geocache Description:

For the past few weeks of Geocaching, I’ve been listening to Dire Straits’ album “Brothers in Arms” a lot. My favourite song on it is “Money for Nothing,” with the refrain “money for nothing, chicks for free.” Immediately, I saw the title for my first cache, and figured out where to place it.

The Egg-O-Mat was a piece of Warren Township history, back before the McMansions came and this was a sleepy farm town. Today, it’s been moved from its downtown perch and sits rotting in the public works lot behind the municipal complex downtown.

For more historical information on the Egg-O-Mat, see Weird NJ. http://www.weirdnj.com/index.php?
option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=28

Your task is to find the Egg-O-Mat, and get a few clues off of the machine to find the final hidden in the woods behind the Warren Municipal Fields. Go to the posted coordinates, right near the parking area for the baseball fields, and you’ll find the Egg-O-Mat sitting sadly behind a collapsing chain-link fence.

Once at the Egg-O-Mat, you have some tasks to do to find the final. The final coordinates are:

N40 36.A4B
W74 29.24Z

The variables:

A: Grammar time! What kind of eggs did the Egg-O-Mat dispense? The number of letters in these two words is variable A.

B: How many regular power plugs can be seen when facing the Egg-O-Mat head on from outside the fence?

Z: How many doorbells are dangling off the Egg-O-Mat?

Plug in the coordinates to your GPSr, and you’re off to the woods to find a small L&L-type container.

Please rehide well – a lot of kids end up back here during baseball games, especially bored young siblings. Push it in as deep as you can.

Have fun!

Congratulations to swampland'r for the FTF!
