Eine Entdeckungstour durch das Nusplinger Plattenkalk
Auf dem Westerberg oberhalb des Ortes Nusplingen befindet sich eine bedeutende Fundstelle aus der Jurazeit vor ca. 150 Millionen Jahren als unsere Gegend mit einem flachen, warmen Meer, dem Thetys-Ozean, bedeckt war.
Der Geologische Lehrpfad des Nusplinger Plattenkalks ist eine wichtige Station des "Geoparks Schwäbische Alb". Die Einführung in die Thematik erfolgt am Rathausplatz in Nusplingen. Dort beginnt der Lehrpfad mit einer Länge von 10 km, führt steil auf die Hochfläche des Natur- und Grabungsschutzgebiets des Westerbergs. Dort wird er als Rundweg weitergeführt. Zwei kürzere Wegvarianten beginnen am Parkplatz "Laisental" (5 km). An beiden Stellen findet man normalerweise eine kleine Broschüre mit wichtigen Informationen zum Mitnehmen.
Im Nusplinger Steinbruch werden durch das Naturkundemuseum Stuttgart und der Leitung von Dr. Günter Schweigert bis heute Grabungen durchgeführt.

Beim Steinbruch, der Station 10 des Rundweges befinden sich überdachte Informationstafeln. Macht dort bitte ein Foto von Euch oder Eurem GPS und beantwortet bitte folgende Fragen:

On the hill Westerberg just above the village Nusplingen there is an important place of finding from the period of the Jurassic Kimmerdigium. About 150 million years ago Southern Germany was covered by a warm, tropical sea, the Thetys-Ocean.
The geological nature trail of the Nusplinger Plattenkalk (Nusplingen Lithographic Limestone) belongs to the Geopark Swabian Alb. There are two starting points. One way is larger (10 km), the other one is shorter (5 km). The long one beginns at the town hall of Nusplingen. There you can find an information board. The other one starts at the parking place Laisental. There is also an information board.
At the stone quarry of Nusplingen the Natural History Museum Stuttgart still dig for fossils.
