Geocache Description:


Sandmoor Golf Club was formed in 1928, originally it was a 6 hole course laid out by Henry Barran on land that had been owned by the Lane Fox family.

The Old Club House with it's 1935 extension.

The course was expanded to include the land around Alwoodley Old Hall and Dr Alister McKenzie was responsible for it's design.
The original club house was situated near to the present Moortown club house just off Harrogate Road. It was extended in 1935.

The old clubhouse together with the 1st, 2nd, 17th and 18th holes were sold off for building land in the 60's. This is now Sandmoor Lane and the cul-de-sacs off it. The new Clubhouse which we can see opposite was opened in the mid sixties.
