Geocache Description:

Located near the Old Niagara Falls Armoury

he original cache was inspired by a travel bug I picked up. It had the goal of visiting war memorials in cities and towns across Canada. As a veteran myself, I leaped at the opportunity to bring this beautiful old building into the spotlight. While the actual city Cenotaph is Located at the base of Clifton Hill, placing or retrieving a cache from this location may prove to be incredibly difficult, due to the high level of pedestrian traffic.

The Armoury, however, is an ideal spot. It was built in 1911 by T.W. Fuller, as part of a government effort to strengthen our reserve army. It was used as a recruitment and training center for Niagara's soldiers through both World Wars, and Korea. It continued to serve as a training facility for the 10th Battery, 56 Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery, right up until the fall of 1999.

For local reserve soldiers, the Armoury was more than just a building. It was a work place, a training center, and a social gathering spot. In its long service history, it has seen hundreds of local soldiers off to war, and was there to receive them upon their return. It has played host to parades, sporting events, and at least one wedding (mine).

The cache is a small lock and lock container. WATCH FOR MUGGLES. Depending on the time of day, this can be a high traffic area, but no where near as busy as Clifton Hill.

Lest we forget.
