The cache is located on the lawn of a historical building that is a must for anyone who wants to learn about the history of the Carson Valley, especially Genoa, Nevada's first settlement. While the cache is available 24/7 year round, the building is only open during the hours of 10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily from May through October.
While you're here, you are invited to pay the modest admission price and see the exhibits. This building housed the first courtroom in Nevada, which is replicated upstairs, and the original jail, still in place on the first floor. It was the county seat, and was later used for a school. The building is located on the original Pony Express Trail and the Emigrant Trail. Showshoe Thompson carried mail over the Sierra between Placerville and Genoa, and is buried down the street in the Genoa cemetary. All these stories and more are depicted with the exhibits inside.
