Route 18 - Beeched Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Blue Square Thing: The cache is, I'm afraid, missing and the hiding place doesn't seem as if it'll cope with another cache anymore. That's a shame, so I'm about to hide a new cache in a nearby location as it turns out that there are even more huge and very old beech trees pretty close by.

Thanks for everyone who found this. It's a shame to archive it after 12 years, but I don't see a real alternative here.

Geocache Description:

A simple cache on a cycle route through rural Kent.

The Route
This cache was originally placed by GeekKitty as part of a series of caches located along Route 18 of the National Cycle Network, linking Canterbury and Ashford. Only two caches remain, this and one just to the south.

The whole route takes 2-3 hours to cycle, depending on your fitness level, and is signposted throughout - although an appropriate OS map of the route would be a good idea. Please be careful on the down hill stretches as the corners are quite sharp and many are dusty. The remaining caches lie on the section between Chartham and Wye, both of which have railway stations, should you fancy a shorter ride. Or a circular route from Chartham might pass through Petham, keeping to the quieter lanes. The full ride is perhaps best done from Canterbury - GeekKitty suggests starting at Canterbury West station and catching a train back from Ashford.

The Cache
The cache is a small lock&lock container. It contains just a log book, so you will need to bring a pen. Please excercise care when re-hiding the cache, making sure that it is hidden away from casual passers-by.

The landowner (Forestry Commission East England) does not assess the suitability or safety of the cache location. The cache placer and the cache finder have a responsibility to take reasonable precautions to protect their own safety and the safety of others. Hazards observed at or on route to the cache location should be reported to the cache placer (that's Blue Square Thing).
