The Route
This cache was originally placed by GeekKitty as part of a series of caches located along Route 18 of the National Cycle Network, linking Canterbury and Ashford. Only two caches remain, this and one just to the north.
The whole route takes 2-3 hours to cycle, depending on your fitness level, and is signposted throughout - although an appropriate OS map of the route would be a good idea. Please be careful on the down hill stretches as the corners are quite sharp and many are dusty. The remaining caches lie on the section between Chartham and Wye, both of which have railway stations, should you fancy a shorter ride. Or a circular route from Chartham might pass through Petham, keeping to the quieter lanes. The full ride is perhaps best done from Canterbury - GeekKitty suggests starting at Canterbury West station and catching a train back from Ashford.
Note: the minor road from Crundale Church (and my Anno Domine MM cache) to the south is narrow and steep. It was in bad condition and at one point signed as "Unsuitable for motor vehicles", but was resurfaced in early 2022 and the signage has been removed. It's actually worse now between the farm at the bottom of the hill and the church. Take care if it's wet or dark and avoid it in ice and snow.
The Location
This location was chosen purely for the view. Cycling past from Sole Street it's hard not to stop and just enjoy the view over the valley. There's even a handy spot for a sit down.
If you've come by car then parking is tricky at the cache itself I'm afraid - but the parking waypoint shows a fine spot a short stroll away by the village pub (as of April 2023 closed, at least temporarily).
The Cache
The cache was replaced and relocated in November 2020. It's now big enough for small swaps and the like. Please try and hide the cache away nicely so that it's hidden from casual passers-by.
