This cache is part of the Nipigon River Recreation Trail Series of
caches. The Nipigon River Trail is part of the Voyageur Trail
System, which, when completed, will run from Sault Ste Marie to
Thunder Bay. The Nipigon River Trail runs from Nipigon to Red Rock.
This series will take you on the Nipigon portion of the trail. The
series should take no more than 2 hours to complete. The trail is a
linear trail, so you will have to backtrack to get back to your
vehicle. If you wish, you can carry on to Red Rock and pick up the
other caches along the trail, but you will need to figure out how
to get back to your car from there.
This bridge near the cache location crosses the former diverted
channel for Stillwater Creek, mentioned in the first cache. The
Creek ran through a ditch, past the sewage treatment plant and out
to the Nipigon River. This ditch was also once the overflow for the
old sewage treatment plant. At this point, the creek was nicknamed
Stinky Creek, for obvious reasons. Just across the bridge and to
the right, you can see the site of the new sewage treatment plant.
When this plant goes online, the town will be returning fully
treated water back to the river.
There is only room in the cache for a logbook, please bring your
own writing stick.
