This cache is part of the Nipigon River Recreation Trail Series of
caches. The Nipigon River Trail is part of the Voyageur Trail
System, which, when completed, will run from Sault Ste Marie to
Thunder Bay. The Nipigon River Trail runs from Nipigon to Red Rock.
This series will take you on the Nipigon portion of the trail. The
series should take no more than 2 hours to complete. The trail is a
linear trail, so you will have to backtrack to get back to your
vehicle. If you wish, you can carry on to Red Rock and pick up the
other caches along the trail, but you will need to figure out how
to get back to your car from there.
This location is on the 49th parallel of latitude. The Nipigon
Marina is the only port on Lake Superior that is north of the 49th
parallel. From the viewing platform, you can get a great view of
the Nipigon Marshes and often, some of the wildlife that inhabit
them.
Also check out the great views of Doghead Mountain and the Nipigon
River Palisades. The Nipigon River Palisades are home to Peregrine
Falcons, an endangered species. Watch for them flying over the
river in search of ducks, gulls and other birds to prey upon.
Cache contains only a log book. Please bring your own
pencil.
