The machine you will find at the listed coordinates is an old horizontal steam engine.
It was installed in the new mill in 1883 and in it's days it was crushing 17 tons of cane per hour. After a working life of 88 years it was finally sent into retirement in 1971.
A group of mill workers dedicated their time to restore it for the 100th anniversary of the mill in 1983.
Victoria Mill is the second largest sugar mill in Queensland, it is also one of the oldest ones, established in the "plantation" era.
Those plantations resembled small towns, with houses, stables, school, church and cemetery. All of them (except for the stables) are still in use today.
Close by you can also see one of the old steam emgines and two carriages.
Initially the engine was used for hauling cane at Homebush Mill near Mackay, when it closed down the engine came up here. From 1921 to 1932 it was then used to transport passengers and goods from Lucinda to Ingham, Stone River and Long Pocket.
After that, until 1976 it transported maintenance gangs through the mill area.
Cache conatiner is a Nano, so please bring your own pencil.
Be thorough and you will succeed!
Happy hunting!
