This was always a beautiful area and so busy every weekend in the summer. A weekend rarely went by that their wasn't a picnic or two here and usually a softball game. This used to be and is still called Orland lake by some people. At one time their were cabins across LaGrange road where the landscape company is located, but that is long gone.
Today their is no fishing allowed and it called McGinnis Slough. The lake has slowly filled in over the years mostly because it used to be the place were storm water for Old Orland went. The Forest preserve used to dredge some areas for fishing but stopped that and let it fill in and let the water levels drop to attract migratory birds.
This is still a beautiful area to visit and see wildlife. You may walk around a bush and be 20 feet from a deer with both of you stairing at each other.
This is a fantastic area to take your kids to see all kinds of wildlife. My son used to love to go here when he was little to learn what different animal tracks looked like and try to follow them.
This area can have some standing water in areas after heavy rains, just step around it.
Enjoy!
