The town of Spokane began in 1890 near the Spokane Mine. The mine produced lead, zinc ,gold, silver, hematite, graphite, beryl, mica, arsenic and copper. Some of the structures are no longer standing, but there are still a few historic buildings that have withstood the test of time. These structures are protected under the historic act so it is unlawful to cause damage to them. Once you arrive at the Spokane ghost town, you will find an old 2 story home, garage, well, pumphouse, many old cars and a schoolhouse. There is also another cache (GCVET7) nearby which will lead you to a storage facility and another structure. There is also a nearby grave of a miner that was murdered over a mining claim. If you happen to stumble upon the grave site please be sure to be respectful. There is a FTF prize of an unactivated Black Hills Geocoin. Enjoy the hike, be safe and have fun!
