Calluna Tib: Ernie's wife has now decided that she would prefer that the caches placed by him are archived. The containers will be removed during the Christmas holiday.

Stembridge Windmill....
Stembridge Tower Mill is the only remaining thatched windmill in England and is under the care of the National Trust. Constructed in 1822 it was damaged by storms and left running via steam by 1897/8 and last used commercially in 1910. In 1969 Professor H. H. Bellot left the windmill, cottage and garden to the National Trust in his will. The mill has four floors, a thatched cap and is constructed of local limestone known in the area as Blue Lias.  The cottage in the grounds is a holiday cottage, just the job if you fancy being Windy Miller for a while.

The Cache...
A slight diversion to this one, but well worth while. If the gates are open, it is free to look around Stembridge Windmill. There is a charge for non N.T. members if you want to go inside. Click here for further info.  The gates are open 2 March to 3 November 10am to 5pm.  You can look inside the windmill 14 April to 11 August, Sundays only 1pm to 5pm.

Car Parking

If the gates are open, you are welcome to come and park inside for free.  Otherwise there is just enough room for one car next to the gate.
