Geocache Description:

This cache is located in a lovely park built to honor Paul Anderson, the world's strongest man. The cache can be located without leaving the paved areas. This cache was placed on behalf of the Toccoa Main Street Program and the Paul Anderson Foundation.

Paul Anderson was born in Toccoa, Georgia in 1932. In 1956 he won an Olympic gold medal in a long weightlifting duel in Melbourne, Australia Olympics as a weightlifter in the super-heavyweight class. This while suffering a 104 degree fever. Anderson turned professional after the 1956 Olympics and performed many amazing feats of stupendous strength. Anderson could not compete in the 1960 Olympics due to his professional status. Anderson and his wife, Glenda, both devout Christians, founded the Paul Anderson Youth Home for troubled youth in Vidalia, Georgia in 1961. This home which has served over 1,000 troubled youth was supported by Paul's speaking engagements and strength exhibitions. As a child, Anderson suffered from Bright's Disease, a kidney disorder, and eventually died from kidney disease. (information is from Wikipedia) I remember seeing Paul Anderson in the late 1960's at King High School in Tampa, Florida. I was greatly impressed by both his amazing feats of strength and his inspiring message.
