STGT:CLO08:Genesee Riverway Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Determined Doe: Seawaytrail.com reports that "Funding for the project has ended and there are NO limited edition geo trail coins or log-books remaining." It was a fun project and I am happy that I was able to sponsor one of the caches in my region. Due to the frequent theft of my cache in this area, I have decided to archive at this time. Thanks to all who visited. I hope everyone enjoyed the gorgeous boardwalk on the Genesee River nearby.

Geocache Description:

This cache brings you to the Genesee Riverway Trail just north of Turning Point Park and the fabulous boardwalk that travels out over the Genesee River. The width of the river here allows for big freighters to turn around - leading to the park's name.

Cache is not attached to cable - so please ignore it if you come across it at GZ.

This cache is placed as part of the Great Lakes Seaway Trail Geotrail, located within the Central Lake Ontario / Rochester (CLO) Region. There are 15 caches hidden within this region, and geocachers finding ten or more Great Lakes Seaway Trail Geotrail caches within this region can earn a free CLO Region geocoin. If you are interested in participating in the Geotrail, please visit www.seawaytrail.com/geotrail for a list of locations where you can pick up a free copy of the official Great Lakes Seaway Trail Geotrail Logbook.

This cache contains a unique hole punch which must stay with the cache. Use this hole punch in space # 8 on the CLO Region page of your Official Great Lakes Seaway Trail Logbook. This hole punch is NOT a trade item.

Congrats to ttomw on the FTF!

GENESEE RIVERWAY TRAIL
"The Genesee Riverway Trail (GRT) is an off-road trail for walking, running and bicycling along the Genesee River. It extends through the scenic, historic and cultural heart of Rochester, from the Erie Canal to downtown and Lake Ontario. It provides pedestrian access to the Genesee River, its scenic gorge, three waterfalls, eight pedestrian bridges, and eleven parks, including four historic parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.

GRT links nine historic districts and individual landmarks including the 1842 Erie Canal Aqueduct and the 1822 Lake Ontario Lighthouse. The trail serves the University of Rochester and a host of other city attractions, services, and neighborhoods. "

"The Genesee Riverway Trail is marked with a system of wayfinding and interpretive signs to encourage and guide public use. Most of the trail is paved and easily accessible. Steep, rough, or narrow sections of the trail are clearly signed."

TURNING POINT PARK
"Located in the Charlotte neighborhood nearby to Lake Ontario on Rochester's northwest side, Turning Point Park covers 275 wooded acres along the banks of the Genesee River. Hiking and biking trails will help you discover the park's distinct areas, from the wooded oak forest called "Bullock's Woods" to the cattail lined shores of the river. Enjoy the nature watching and beautiful river views from its trails. '

I hope that you enjoy this area and have time to explore more of the Genesee Riverway Trail and all that Rochester has to offer.
