Bike Trail - Van Metre Cemetery Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

WVTim: It's just getting to hard to climb that hill to replace the logs and do Maintenance. So, I'll give up this space and let someone else have it.

Geocache Description:

Grab your bike or walking shoes to access this series of caches along the WV 9 bike trail. A bike makes short work of these caches.

There are several access roads that intersect the bike trail.

This series of caches is located on the new bike path, which is still under construction in some parts, and is adjacent to the new and improved WV 9. The construction of this path is planned for the entire 10-mile section of Route 9 between Martinsburg and the Virginia line. It will be several years before we see the entire project completed.

At the cache site you can see the IRS Facility. The IRS Enterprise Computing Center (nearly 400K Sq. Ft ) houses the following Internal Revenue Service programs and activities: national tax administration data processing operations and individual and corporate tax administration master file data base, call site for Information Returns, .National Program for IRP/MMRP, Cryptographic Management Center, Martinsburg Development Center, Service Center Mainframe Consolidation, and numerous senior level executives responsible for the leadership, development and implementation of nationwide tax administration programs to the administration of the internal revenue tax laws.

Approximately 1,250 personnel are employed there.

This cache located near the Liberty Business Park Water Tower is actually located in James M Van Metre Cemetery. I suggest parking your bike below the water tower on the Bike Trail and walking up the very steep hill to Van Metre Cemetery. The large marker in the middle of the cemetery is especially interesting. Take time to read it. It will be a reminder of how times have changed.

Terrain rating is a reflection of the steep hill to climb off the bike trail. Please be gentle with cache and place exactly as found.
