Geocache Description:

This cache is placed as part of the Great Lakes Seaway Trail Geotrail, located within the Central Lake Ontario Region.

There are 15 caches hidden within this region, and geocachers finding ten or more Great Lakes Seaway Trail Geotrail caches within this region can earn a free CLO Region geocoin. If you are interested in participating in the Geotrail, please visit Great Lakes Seaway Trail website for a list of locations where you can pick up a free copy of the official Great Lakes Seaway Trail Geotrail Logbook.

NOTE - As of 2015 - There are NO free limited edition geotrail coins or log-books remaining, but this cache is still active.

This cache contains a unique hole punch which must stay with the cache. Use this hole punch in space #6 on the CLO Region page of your Official Great Lakes Seaway Trail Logbook. This hole punch is NOT a trade item.

The cache is located on the Genesee Riverway Trail, east of the river, near the Seneca Park Zoo. For a bit of a longer hike, the trail can also be accessed near the Colonel Patrick O’Rorke Memorial Bridge (Pattonwood Drive).

All along this trail are great places to view the Mighty Genesee and its surroundings. It is home to the Seneca Park Zoo, picnic areas, playgrounds, and miles of hiking trails. During the summer, the park is heavily trafficked by picnickers, hikers, bikers and zoo visitors. Depending on when you go and how far you want to hike, you may see deer and beaver, among many other varieties of wildlife along the way. Also may see plenty of boaters out enjoying the good weather.

If you are biking from the zoo area, please note there is a gate with a narrow opening across the trail before getting to the cache. I have seen a bike getting thru this opening by getting one side of the handlebars thru, then moving it around to get the other side thru. You may or may not be able to do this with your bike, so consider yourself pre-warned.

This trail is basically gentle and pleasant. There are some uphill and downhill parts which are optional side trips to the edges of the Genesee River if you choose. Watch for some hidden waterfalls too. It can also be a very pretty cross/country ski trip during the winter when there is good snow.

Please sign the logbook, and don't forget to punch your Seaway Trail logbooks with the special punch inside on CLO space #6. Cache was placed with a few small trade items for children inside.

There is a prize of "The Thousand Islands Unforgettable" photograph book and a lammy for the first to find. There are also some "I Cached on the Great Lakes Seaway Trail CLO" buttons for a few finders after that.

Enjoy your day!
