Join us at this event and find out more details. DHR will provide a
cache container and a log. All they ask is for you to place a
cache, post the coordinates and take a picture of both sides of the
marker. You do not have to be a member of TAG. All are
welcome.
There will be refreshments available at the event, at the R.A. Gray
Building, 500 South Bronough Street, Tallahassee, Florida. Please
bring at least one ‘newbie’ or someone interested in
geocaching. The event is open to the public to generate interest in
geocaching and the Florida Historical Marker Program. Please park
in the adjacent Lot E parking deck, where parking is free.
Multi, Mystery and other off-set caches are encouraged! The markers
are made of aluminum and are not magnetic. Each marker has a unique
number and the date it was placed which will be a great source for
coordinates for a multi or mystery. If you place a multi or mystery
cache and it will be a spoiler to post a picture of the marker on
your cache page, you can email a picture of the marker to Shannon
instead (see below).
Any cache you place will be owned by you and maintenance will be
your responsibility. Please do a little research before the event
and choose which markers you want to claim. Here’s a link to
the list of markers:

There is no obligation to place a cache if you attend. Please
join us for refreshments and a chance to meet other cachers, learn
about caching and support historic preservation and
education.

Eventually, the goal is to have a cache at or near every Historical
Marker in the State of Florida. Look for markers with the state
seal or the 3-palmed logo above. Don’t wait for this event if
you want to place a cache. It's not limited to Leon County. Just
remember, you are responsible for cache maintenance and all the
usual cache placement rules apply (saturation, proximity to
schools, ect).
Great news! We have learned that T-shirts will be
available for anyone willing to place a cache. One shirt per
historical marker—so if there are 5 people on your team, and
you want 5 T-shirts, plan to place caches at 5 markers. Please post
the number of caches/T-shirts you want and the shirt sizes.
Even better news! On the same day as our event, the
Museum of Florida History will be hosting "Fly Me to the Moon" with
a tour of the exhibit and hands-on activities about the lunar
exploration. Times are 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Museum Main
Gallery, free.
