Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed by WM6P on 12/06/2001 and was adopted by MaddMaxxAWR on 5-10-2021 to help maintain it as WM6P is no longer in the area and is a reference point for "Hole in the Wall Gang" cache GC95FD.

I thought this would be pretty tough, but many have shown it is not that hard. As they say on TV, “Only trained professionals should attempt this.” Due to growth of bushes, I have added a couple of compass directions to the instructions as some landmarks can no longer be seen, line of sight. Each measurement shown is in yards, with accuracy of +/- 1.5 yards. As there is only one object of the given description, at the exact stated distance, direction is not given in all cases. I believe that an accurate measurement technique in addition to GPS may be needed. You might prove me wrong.

Several precise measurement methods come to mind including terrestrial photogrammetry. See:

What is Terrestrial Photogrammetry? Applications of Terrestrial Photogrammetry - Civil Stuff

One might also consider acoustical or laser interferometry. See:

Interferometry - Wikipedia
but these may be cost prohibitive.wink

Or you might try this method using a compass: http://www.zoom-one.com/distance.htm

One might make a series of really good guesses but…
I really did measure these distances to the accuracy shown and my results are repeatable. If you are prepared, I would estimate this could be solve in 90 minutes. If not, it could take forever…well it isn’t a 4.9 for nothing. May I suggest you plan some additional things to do in the area so your trip will not a total loss?

  • 1. The coordinates of N34° 15.883′ W118° 39.254′, with an elevation of 1119 ft. take you close to an old building. To start your journey go to the center of what me be a hallway between a series of rooms. I don’t believe you will find the doors locked.
  • 2. From this point travel 90 yards to cross a man-made structure.
  • 3. Go 112 yards to a cable support near a group of five trees.
  • 4. Go to a tree at a distance of 174 yards.
  • 5. Go to the next nearest tree.
  • 6. Go E to a tree at 107 yards.
  • 7. Go E to a sign at 142 yards. (There are so many signs.)
  • 8. Go to a power pole at 43 yards.
  • 9. Go 190 yards to the cache. (roughly east.) At the end of the barrier, look behind the cage. Find the 35mm micro.
