Geocache Description:

This EarthCache is located in Stone State Park. There is a nice trail to the lake from a picnic area to which you can drive.

Turtle Lake is a scenic site of interest within Stone State Park in Sioux City, Iowa. Sioux City is in the Loess Hills region. The Loess Hills are windblown deposits accumulating to great depth that were created from strong winds blowing across the Missouri River Valley between 18,000 and 150,000 years ago. Glacial action pulverized rock in to fine quartz particles. Loess is a silty soil and the term "loess" means wind-blown silt. This lake is nestled in between some of these hills of loess.
