Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden along the Miami and Erie Canal Towpath Hiking Trail (40 miles long from Fort Loramie to Delphos) which is part of the longer Buckeye Trail (1445 miles long circling Ohio). This section is also part of the even longer North Country Trail (4600 miles long spanning from North Dakota to New York).

The 6 Mile Aqueduct was built for two reasons. The first was to allow the 6 Mile Creek to flow under the canal and the second was allowing a drainage point for the canal. The waterfall you may see is the drainage of the canal into the creek below. This draining of the canal was necessary to maintain the proper water level for the boats to pass by. If the water got too high it would flood the canal, its structures, and the buildings and mills built next to it.
