Seek the Peaks: Emerald Slopes
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The Sun Peaks Alpine Trail system is best accessed by taking the
Sunburst Express Chair up to Mid-Mountain. Trails start at 1850m
(6070'), heading west and north into Crystal Bowl, West Bowl, and
the Peak. The highest point is Mount Tod at 2152m (7060'). The
longest trail is the West Bowl Loop. Geocachers should leave enough
time to catch the last chair down the mountain at the end of the
day's hiking and geocaching.
The ski runs are covered in wildlflowers from June through August
and remain green until the fall frosts. Pasque flower, avalanche
lilies, shooting stars, and white mouse-eared chickweed start off
the season. As the slopes dry out, fireweed, forget-me-not,
subalpine daisy, yarrow, larkspur, indian paintbrush, columbine,
arnica, and lupines dominate the slopes. Late season pussytoes,
fleabane, and sedum bloom up to the frosts of September.
The cache is placed in an expense of emerald slopes.
