Alien Abduction #3: Doting Dog Walker Traditional Cache
Mars Venus and Pluto: With only 7 visitors that manage to escape the aliens in a year and a physical check of looking for the geocache ourselves, we came to the conclusion the aliens had abducted Charmaine, her dog, the geocache and the many others that went missing. Perhaps some of the mosquitoes were the aliens. They certainly can keep people away. [}:)]

The central Alberta area has been plagued by a number of suspected alien abductions in recent months. All remain unexplained, and few if any gained media attention. This series of caches commemorate these unfortunate souls, and further investigation may bring answers to the mysteries.
Charmaine's pride and joy was a small, intensely ugly little dog. The breeder she bought the dog from had named it "Oedipus Rex" to lend a regal image to a breed supposedly favored by royalty, though no one was sure why royalty would want such an ugly, objectionably yappy dog. Charmaine preferred to call it "Odie" partly because it was just easier to say, and partly because of the cheerful image of the dog in the Garfield comics. Friends who knew it well thought Odie was short for either "Odious" or "Odiferous", both of which suited the dog equally well.
Charmaine liked to take Odie for walks on the local path system, she on the left and Odie on the right separated by the 50 foot reel leash. That way she could corral other walkers and cyclists alike to discuss the merits of the day's weather, the state of the trails and occasionally how difficult it was to enjoy the trails with people all over them. For optimum corralling she generally chose sunny, warm days in the early afternoon.
On the fateful late autumn day, it had been a glorious day for meeting new people. Most had been pleasant and interesting, excepting of course the mountain biker who had been clumsy enough to fall off his bike trying to go around Odie on the trail. It had been such a great walk that Charmaine had wandered further afield and much later in the day. It was going to be a long walk home now, and her feet were beginning to hurt.
She and Odie trudged along the trails, through woods and past the lakes. Dark clouds gathered as the sun set. The day closed in around them. Worse the number of people on the trail thinned, dwindled and finally disappeared. They walked alone into the somber darkness and silence.
From this point, no one really knows what happened. The aliens left the dog (showing signs of extraterrestrial intelligence) and left no trace. Odie barked furiously, of course, but since he barked incessantly, no one noticed for quite some time.
This small metal micro cache marks Charmaine's disappearance.
Parking can be a problem. You might try near N52 29.010 W113 45.000, but Charmaine had to walk a bit to get to the site. Might be pretty marshy too.
